Frequently Asked Questions

Rain Restorative Therapies F.A.Q.

What does Rain Restorative Therapies mean?

Rain signifies that what we do is non-invasive and in most cases natural, minimally aggressive care.  This applies to medical massage, therapeutic massage, and the skincare work that we do.  Our approach is the most natural possible to meet your goals.

Restorative means that our intent is to assess your goals and customize all sessions to work toward your goals.  Common goals include pain management, injury work, stress relief, reduction of hyperpigmentation, acne, or signs of aging.

Therapies signifies that we consider our business to go far beyond pampering, entertainment, and escape.  We do provide upscale rooms, equipment, warm tables, and hot towels, but that is the extra. We want you to come here and challenge us with your goals.  You'll be surprised with the results!

Advanced Massage F.A.Q.

How is your massage advanced?

All of our LMTs have advanced education to provide services that are truly "results-oriented".  Everyone here is trained to provide results that are as comfortable as possible.  We listen to your feedback, and if our work is ever too deep, we immediately back off and try more heat or something else to get the results we need.  "No pain, no gain" is the polar opposite of our motto.  No one should ever dread a massage appointment.  Massage is one of the happiest things in the world to us and we want you to feel the same way.

What is Structural Bodywork?

Structural Bodywork is postural balancing in a nutshell.  We believe that over time some muscles become tighter then others and force you into an unnatural posture (usually forward).  This causes pain and discomfort.  It also can lead to injury.  We would rather see you in this phase than in a doctor prescribed medical massage situation.  We conduct assessments for a nominal fee that chart your standing posture, GAIT, and level of pain.  We will then let you know what we think is possible.

If you decide that Structural Bodywork is for you, we will offer you a discount on a series of massage sessions and apply your consultation fee to your total.  During your sessions, you will experience the generous use of heat, Swedish, and targeted Deep Tissue massage.  A noticeable difference will appear as soon as your second session, but definitely after sessions three and four.

What is Medical Massage?

If you have been injured in a car accident or at work, or if you have another injury or condition for which massage is medically necessary, your doctor may give you a prescription for massage.

Medical Massage is therapeutic bodywork performed when medically necessary as an integral part of a medical treatment team. We work with medical doctors, naturopaths, physical therapists, chiropractors, and other health care practitioners to provide massage care when it is medically indicated for the patient.

Providing Medical Massage requires advanced training (beyond the state's basic licensing requirement) in clinical and orthopedic massage techniques, pathology, and advanced medical terminology.

Bring a prescription from your doctor, and if your plan will cover it, we will bill your insurance. If your situation qualifies to be paid by PIP (Personal Injury Protection) case, or Workmen's Compensation, we will gladly make arrangements to accept it.

Image Skincare F.A.Q.

Nowadays there is a lot of hype about the so-called "peptides". What exactly are peptides?

Peptides are chains of amino acids which are designed to penetrate the skin. Their function is to inform or communicate to our cells how to perform particular functions. Longer peptides are called proteins.

In addition to our clinically proven active ingredients, you will find peptides incorporated into the latest formulations in many of our products. It is our belief that your skincare regimen should be based on a variety of ingredients; you will find peptides throughout our products, but always in conjunction with other active ingredients to achieve the best result.

At this time Image Skincare is using the following peptides in their formulations in conjunction with other high quality ingredients:

Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 (Argireline): which prevents muscle contractions to smooth fine lines

Examples:
Ageless total Retinol A creme
Vital C anti-aging serum
Ormedic balancing eye lift gel

Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 (Matrixyl), which increases collagen production as well as other components in the dermal matrix to create thicker, more plump skin

Examples:
Vital C ACE serum
Vital C eye recovery gel
Vital C anti-aging serum
CELL.U.LIFT body firming creme

Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 (Rigin), which inhibits the pro-inflammatory response in the skin, promoting more youthful and healthy skin

Examples:
Ormedic balancing eye lift gel

Regu-Age and Eyeliss, synergistic peptides which reduce puffiness and dark circles as well as firm the delicate eye area

Example:
Ormedic balancing eye lift gel

Do Image Skincare products contain parabens?

Image Skincare is dedicated to offer safe products without the use of chemical preservatives like parabens. The use of parabens as preservatives in cosmetics is controversial. There are clinical studies suggesting that parabens have potential health risks, including estrogen activity. The direct link between parabens and potential health risks like cancer, however, cannot be proven in humans so far.

Image Skincare is one of the first skincare companies who started to remove parabens from its product line. All of the lines of Image Skincare are paraben free.

Does Image Skincare perform testing on animals or use any other harmful ingredients?

Image Skincare has not and will never test any products on animals! Newly formulated products undergo a thorough laboratory testing followed by field studies tested by humans, and all of their products consist of safe ingredients.

In addition they replaced all chemical preservatives, like parabens, with natural and plant-derived preservatives.

  • Products not tested on animals
  • No petrochemicals
  • No chemical preservatives
  • Fragrance composed with 100% essential oils
  • Respect of the environment
  • No Silicones
  • No Parabens

What is the difference between a chemical and physical sun block?

Chemical sun blocks contain ingredients which absorb harmful UV rays. This process takes place in the actual layers of the skin. Here, the chemical sun block reacts with the harmful rays and transforms them into a different kind of energy, mostly heat.

A physical sun block works like a shield to reflect the actual UV rays, keeping them from penetrating the layers of the skin. All of the Image Skincare SUN products contain a physical block.

In order for a sun block to be effective, it needs to offer broad spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection, like all of our SUN products. In addition to providing the best protection, all of Image Skincare's SUN products are also moisturizers which can be used daily even if you are not exposed to the sun.

I experienced some redness and flakiness after using Image Skincare's Ageless line. Is that normal?

If your skin was never on a professional skin treatment protocol, you might experience some sort of redness, dryness, or flakiness after a couple of days using the Ageless line. This is their most potent anti-aging line which effectively treats the signs of aging skin. In the beginning your cells will speed up their cellular turnover; dead skin cells will be exfoliated and fresher, younger looking and firmer skin will soon be visible.

These effects are perfectly normal and are part of your skin renewal process. To ease these signs you can use some of the orange Vital C products alternating with the Ageless line. Use your SUN moisturizer daily. Try to use the Ageless repair crème in the beginning every other night, then every night after the second week. If you experience prolonged erythema and dryness, please consult with your esthetician.

Is Image Skincare's OrMedic™ product certified USDA organic?

The OrMedic™ skincare line is a synthesis of the purest organic ingredients combined with highly effective ingredients to achieve clinically proven results. It balances the skins health with organic ingredients, highly potent anti-oxidants and essential botanicals without the use of chemicals, acids or parabens. In order to be a certified USDA organic product, more than 95% of the ingredients have to be certified organic. Image Skincare's OrMedic™ line also incorporates other ingredients besides its organic content to achieve its desired result. For example, they are also using the latest peptide technology in their OrMedic™ products as well as highly potent free radical scavengers, which are not available as organic products.

Their philosophy is the combination of the best of two worlds: organic ingredients and medical effectiveness.

Youngblood Cosmetics F.A.Q.

What is mineral makeup?

Rather than being oil or petroleum-based, true mineral makeup is made of earthen minerals, milled to a very fine powder.

Why is mineral makeup better than traditional makeup?

Mineral cosmetics reflect light - like millions of tiny diamond mirrors - to hide fine lines and discolorations. Unlike traditional cosmetics which coat the skin with a layer of film, mineral makeup allows your skin to breathe and function naturally. In fact, Youngblood was originally developed for use in a medical setting, to help patients' skin breathe and heal after harsh surgical procedures.

High quality mineral makeup should not clog pores and should feel like you have no makeup on at all. It should contain no synthetic or irritating ingredients, such as alcohol, artificial fragrance, mineral oil, talc, or petroleum.

How is Youngblood manufactured?

At Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics they use only the purest, most premium grade minerals. They micronize their minerals using their own proprietary milling process. Although many mineral lines claim to be "jet-milled" or "triple-milled," not all milling processes achieve superior results. We invite you to compare Youngblood's products to their competitors, and we think you'll find their quality superior to any other mineral cosmetic line.

What makes Youngblood superior to other mineral cosmetic lines?

Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics began in a medical context, to be used by patients with skin traumatized by acne, rosacea, and harsh procedures, such as laser treatments, chemical treatments, or cosmetic surgery. Developed with leading doctors, Youngblood products contain the healthiest ingredients possible.

When comparing mineral cosmetic lines, always check for synthetic ingredients such as alcohol, artificial fragrance, mineral oil, talc, or petroleum - you won't find these in Youngblood products.

You'll see some similarity in ingredients among different mineral cosmetic companies, but the proportions will not be the same. You'll also read about companies using different, "superior" milling processes. We're confident that when you compare, you'll find Youngblood ingredients and processes are of the very highest quality on the market.

You'll also notice that some other mineral cosmetics may have an undesirable "glittery" look. That's because their milling process or ingredient combination leaves a rough finish - it can even itch or cause breakouts. Youngblood, however, glides on silky smooth and has a more refined "glow," rather than a sparkly "glitter."

Try Youngblood's products - we think you'll find the feel is the silkiest available, the coverage is flawless, the look is the most polished and natural, and the choice of shades the most comprehensive and realistic.

Why aren't Youngblood products SPF rated?

Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics value your health and want you to make the most informed health decisions possible.

Many of Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics' products contain titanium dioxide, a natural mineral with sun-protective properties. However, as all women will use differing amounts of product, the degree of sun protection will vary from person to person. For example, a woman who uses relatively heavy coverage of Youngblood Natural Mineral Foundation will benefit from more sun protection than will a woman who uses only a light dusting.

Youngblood recognizes the ordinary variations in the way their products are used, and their doctors agree that customers are best served by their choice not to provide their products with an SPF rating, as it could be misleading.

Does Youngblood use animal testing?

Absolutely not. Youngblood's founding beauty principles are natural health, empowerment, and environmental responsibility. Their products are completely cruelty-free.

Why is talc bad for my skin?

Talc is a filler, and can block pores, dry your skin, and cause irritation. Youngblood's products contain no talc, or any other fillers.

What kind of starch is in Youngblood's products, and why is it used?

Youngblood uses Rice Starch as a healthy alternative to talc. Rice Starch absorbs oil, sets makeup so it's long-lasting and doesn't move, and provides a beautiful matte finish.

Some Youngblood products list a fragrance. Is this fragrance artificial?

Youngblood fragrances are herbal, such as those derived from natural sage oil.

Youngblood Ultimate Concealer contains dimethicone. Is dimethicone petroleum based, and will it clog pores?

No. Dimethicone is an organic compound derived from silica. It is clear, inert, non-toxic and non-flammable. It functions to protect the skin from moisture loss and will not clog pores.

I'm allergic to nickel. Will Youngblood's products aggravate my allergy?

No. There is no nickel in Youngblood products.

What is the function of parsley extract in Youngblood Rice Setting Powder?

Youngblood includes parsley extract for its soothing, anti-inflammatory properties.

How do minerals become "pressed?"

Youngblood's powders are milled using their proprietary process, which results in their unique silkiness, natural appearance, and high-performance coverage. These powders are then mixed with organic compounds to bind the ingredients together, and then pressed into metal pans under high pressure.

What are ingredients listed as "Lakes?"

Lakes are types of pigments - solids that have a color. The "Lake" coloring process is prepared using an inert binder, such as commonly used dietary antacids.

Do Youngblood products contain preservatives?

Most of their loose mineral products contain no preservatives.

However, any product containing liquids, such as lip gloss, mascara, etc., can foster bacterial or microbial growth. In order to protect your health and inhibit the growth of microbes and bacteria, they have chosen preservatives derived from plants, which are often used in baby care and food products. It is their commitment to your healthy lifestyle that they use the most natural ingredients possible.

Some Youngblood products contain Tocopheryl Acetate. Is this ingredient synthetic?

Also known as Vitamin E acetate, Tocopheryl Acetate is a common vitamin supplement that provides protection from the sun's ultraviolet rays. The Tocopheryl Acetate they use is derived from soy beans.
